Publisher Development Manager
Flytedesk powers media and advertising on college campuses. We build the technology that college media organizations and universities use to manage their operations. We build the technology that small businesses and national brands use to reach students. We work with brands, campaigns, and causes as their college partner in understanding, reaching, and driving outcomes with students.
We have a presence at almost every college in the country and the ability to reach 20 million students through campus billboards, student influencers, campus email newsletters, college newspapers, digital ads, SMS, and more.
We started flytedesk as the tool we needed at our college newspapers and have grown to become the single largest outside funding source for student journalism. Brick by brick, we’re creating a sustainable business model for college media by providing a coveted service to advertisers. We’re mission-driven, profitable, remote, and unrelenting in pushing our business and customers forward.
You loved your student media experience and made a big impact on the organization. Ideally, you worked there for the majority of your college career and took on significant leadership roles. You’re passionate about the future of media, and you’d love to help more student media organizations be better, more innovative learning labs. You’re a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, super smart, and flexible.
Publisher Development Managers get to wear many hats: from client service to operations to marketing. No two days are the same.
Responsibilities
Must haves:
Nice to haves:
At flytedesk, you get to work with the most passionate, fun, engaged student media nerds on the planet. We have former ad managers, business managers, editors-in-chiefs, and current student media board members.
You’ll work closely with Avari Stamps and Leen Obeidat on the publisher development team. You’ll report directly to Niya Coleman, Director of Publisher Development.
We are the decisions we make, and at flytedesk we decided to save college media. Our progress is measured by advancement towards our mission, the experience we have along the way, and the revenue we generate doing it.
We’ve never gotten around to having enshrined, heavy-handed “core values” but there are some things you should know about working with us…
This isn’t a job and if you treat it like one you won’t be successful. Startups are hard, change is constant, the highs are high, the lows are low, you learn a lot about yourself, you learn a lot about your peers. We want to share the full beautiful, messy experience with you. You need to be looking to build something that matters, dive in with an open mind, and find the value in being wrong. We’re wrong all the time, if we took it personally we’d be miserable.
We work incredibly hard and find sweat to be a virtue. We used to dress this up but that just leads to misaligned expectations. Our way of building things and navigating uncertainty is to power through it. Obviously, we try to outsmart problems first, but we’re liberal with the elbow grease and you should be comfortable with that.
YOU get the sponge! That’s a Curb your Enthusiasm joke and at risk of destroying humor through explanation, don’t wait for someone else to solve a problem that you see clearly. Our best people dive in head first and figure it out, even if it’s not “their” job.
While we take our work seriously, we don’t take ourselves seriously. We treat each other with candor and kindness, and also challenge and hold each other accountable. We believe we’re all a work in progress and there’s humor in just about everything. We make time for silliness. We appreciate levity.
